This song is a lamentation of toxic masculinity. It was inspired by a photograph of a young woman winning a pageant and by the song "A Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke hence some of the obvious similarities. In this song i took the upcoming change to mean changes in attitudes on a societal level towards queerness, but also climate change and this kind of sets the stage for the themes explored on this concept album about Summer Vacation.
lyrics
Summer Vacay
Has left a vacancy
Wrapping up has left us cray cray
In this self made, man made, god made mess
In this man cave
What do y’all do here?
The answer’s boring and unclear
And unchained eyes receive
Coded telemetry
I was born making little sense
Trying to influence
Rub some cents together
Can really tell difference
I was born
And this pre-exists
This condition (we’re living it)
I fear that we’re all in
A fear that we all live.
A fear that we’re all in.
Undo this… make it right
Go to the pageant.
You’re the queen now. Claim the crown.
The odds stacked, yes, but way too high…
You’ve got to push them over
Or at least help try
I personally believe U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, some people out there in our nation don't have maps
